The album entered at number one in the US charts and was top five in many other countries around the world, while critical reaction was overwhelmingly positive. Second albums are generally considered to be notoriously difficult, but Alabama Shakes have given received wisdom a good, er, shake with Sound & Color. In the making of Alabama Shakes’ Sound & Color, producer Blake Mills and engineer Shawn Everett had almost unheard–of licence to experiment - and took full advantage.
